Costumes will be judged in all 3 lunches, and the most original and creative participants will receive a free ticket to A Black and White Affair, the semi-formal being held on February 16th!

AP or IB?
Two highly-regarded advanced academic programs, the Advanced Placement (AP) Program and the International Baccalaureate (IB) Program, are offered in Cluster V high schools. We encourage parents and students to learn about the program commonalities, differences, and requirements. Please join us for either of the following two meetings to hear the details of each program.

Do You Owe the Library Books or Money?
Ready to start the semester off on the right foot? Check out the list posted in the main hallway to see if you owe the library a fine or book. If you have questions or want to clear your account, stop in at the library! Remember, you can’t graduate until you have cleared your NAME.

Support “Invisible Children”
The Human Rights and Awareness club and the Key Club are co-sponsoring to show a screening of the documentary “Invisible Children.” Inivisible Children is a non-profit organization that raise awareness and funds to stop the abduction of children in Northern Uganda who are being forced into becoming child soldiers. Come support the cause and watch the documentary Monday February 11th at 2:45 in the Lecture Hall. Popcorn and refreshments will be available for sale.
Planet Aid Drive
The Human Rights & Awareness Club is sponsoring the Planet Aid Drive. Donate old clothes and drop them off in the yellow bins located in the front right corner of the school by the faculty parking lot. The money made from your clothing donations will help aid projects in Africa, and a portion of the money made will be donated back to the school. Thanks for donating!
University of Tennessee Symphony Orchestra
The University of Tennessee Symphony Orchestra will be performing on Thursday, February 14, 2008 at 8:00pm in the Auditorium of Thomas Edison High School in
Alexandria.
The concert will be lead by James Fellenbaum, a 1987 graduate of
Edison, who is currently the Director of Orchestras at the University
of Tennessee, and the Resident Conductor of the Knoxville Symphony
Orchestra.
The concert, entitled “A World of Orchestral Jazz” will feature two
world-renown guest artists: Marvin Stamm, trumpet and Bill Mays,
piano. They will be joined by UT faculty artists Cathy Leach,
trumpet, Keith Brown, drums and Rusty Holloway, bass in jazz-infused
works by composers from around the world. Also part of the program is
a WORLD PREMIERE of a jazz-classical double trumpet concerto,
featuring Marvin Stamm and Cathy Leach.
The concert is FREE and open to the public.

The next meeting of “Let’s Talk about IB” will take place next Tuesday, February 19th, in the library during all three lunch periods.
The topic will be IB course registration options for next year.
Students Win Regional Scholastic Art Awards
Congratulations to Sebastiyan Babic and Megan Proffit for their outstanding art work in the Scholastic Art Awards competition sponsored by the Alliance for Young Artists and Writers. Sebastiyan won a silver key for computer art, and Megan won two gold keys for her photography.
Their work will be on display at Northern Virginia Community College’s Ernst Community Cultural Center in Annandale from Friday, February 8, through Thursday, February 21. An awards ceremony for Gold and Silver Key winners is planned for Tuesday, February 19, at 7:30 p.m.

Springfield Estates Elementary School will be celebrating its 50th year of Excellence in Education from March 8 - 14, 2008. In preparation, we are collecting addresses and phone numbers of former students, teachers, and staff members from 1958 to present. Concession Stand Coordinator and Advertisement Coordinator
ATTENTION PARENTS: Edison’s Athletic Boosters is currently looking for an individual(s) or a team of individuals to volunteer for the Concession Stand and Advertisement Coordinator Positions for the 2008-2009 School Year. Girl’s Lacrosse
Attention girl’s lacrosse, there will be a mandatory meeting this Thursday, February 14th in Coach Jensen’s room. Please bring all of your pre-season forms. The meeting will begin at 2:30.
We will have conditioning this week on Wednesday at 3pm and on Friday at 2:45. See you there!
Freshmen Athletes Must Go to ACE Lab
All 9th graders who play on the freshmen or JV basketball teams MUST attend ACE Lab every day. If you meet with a teacher during this time, you are responsible for providing verification to Coach Black, Coach Towle, or the ACE Lab monitor.
