Actress Jane Seymour won’t appear on tonight’s “Dancing With the Stars” elimination round because of the death of her mother Tuesday morning, according to E! News.
Her mother, Mieke Frankenberg, died of complications from a stroke she had earlier this year, E! reported. She was 92.
It is unclear (assuming the 56-year-old Seymour makes it past tonight’s elimination round) whether she will return by Monday when the next dance off is scheduled. Even if she were to return, it would no doubt be challenging, given the limited amount of time she’d have to practice. (At the start of Tuesday’s show, host Tom Bergeron said Seymour will continue on Monday.)
Seymour’s partner, Tony Dovolani, is no stranger to speed bumps along the “Dancing With the Stars” trail. Last year, Dovolani’s partner, country singer Sara Evans, withdrew from competition during Week 6 of Season 3. It was later revealed that she was filing for divorce from her husband, Craig Schelske.
In the first two competition shows this season (Season 5), Seymour and Dovolani started off strong, scoring a 24 out of 30 with their foxtrot; then a somewhat disappointing 21 last night for their mambo.
Before the season kicked off, according to E! News, Seymour credited her mother for her taking part in “Dancing”:
“It turned out to be my mother’s favorite show ever and she would not miss it ever,” the actress said last month.
“She got very, very excited when I said I was going to do this in her honor. I asked if she’d be proud of me, and she actually spoke. It was the only word she’s spoken since the stroke. She said ‘Yes.’
“So I decided I’m going to do the best I can and hopefully I’ll do my mother and anybody with back injuries or advanced age proud.”
